What is a legionella risk assessment?

As a business owner, employer or landlord you are required under section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that tenants, staff and visitors are not exposed to any health and safety risk. In order to maintain a safe supply of water, the framework stipulates that an official legionella risk assessment be carried out every two years.

A legionella risk assessment consists of the following basic stages:

    • Completion of comprehensive legionella risk assessment
    • Executive report – outlining actions required from ‘responsible person’ 
    • Remedial actions 
    • Ongoing monitoring  

What are the legal responsibilities of employers in the control of legionella?

Legionnaires’ Disease, the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems, Approved Code of Practice and guidance (ACoP) L8 provides advice on the requirements of the HSWA and COSHH.

Temperature regulation

Temperature regulation is the most common method of Legionella control but requires regular monitoring.

REFURBISHMENT

We provide a full set of remedial and support services to bring water systems up to current standards and then to maintain them in that condition. This includes:-

  • Tank removal, replacement, repair or re-lining;
  • Fitting of lids, breathers and screens;
  • Cleaning of calorifiers;
  • Re-plumbing to remove dead or stagnant pipework

WATER SYSTEMS DOSING

Large or difficult to clean systems can be protected by additional biocide dosing. Ara Environmental Ltd install, commissioning and run approved dosing equipment.

E.g. Continuous chlorine dioxide dosing into the potable water supply.
