What is a legionella risk assessment?

As a business owner, employer or landlord you are required under section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work Act to ensure that tenants, staff and visitors are not exposed to any health and safety risk. In order to maintain a safe supply of water, the framework stipulates that an official legionella risk assessment be carried out every two years.

A legionella risk assessment consists of the following basic stages:

  • Completion of comprehensive legionella risk assessment
  • Executive report – outlining actions required from ‘responsible person’
  • Remedial actions
  • Ongoing monitoring
